We are approaching a crisis point in the Middle-East. May 15, on the Christian Calendar, is the 70thanniversary of the modern State of Israel. This date corresponded to the Hebrew date of Iyar 5 of Iyar in 1948. This year, the Iyar 5 occurred on April 20. The United States has announced that its embassy will soon be opened in Jerusalem recognizing that city as the capital of Israel. I assume that this will occur on the anniversary of Israel’s independence. At about the same time, Israel will celebrate “Jerusalem Day” on the anniversary of the liberation of Jerusalem during the 1967 Six-Day War. This date marks a most significant milestone in fulfillment of Bible prophecy.
At the same time, tension is rising between the U.S. and Iran. President Trump has decided to pull out of the “Iranian Nuclear Deal”. With or without the agreement, the hostility between these two states is bound to increase. Despite his background as a Sunni Moslem, former President Obama worked to ensure that the Shiite state of Iran would achieve dominance in the Middle-East. The nuclear deal greatly empowered the leaders of Iran with the infusion of huge quantities of cash, the lifting of sanctions and by the provision that Iran would, after a few years, become a nuclear power. I have no idea if Iran has been in compliance with the agreement or not; but, really it makes little difference. Iran is set to achieve hegemony in the Middle-East. They are currently actively taking bold steps in this direction. Recently I read that they currently have deployed 80,000 troops to Syria. In addition, their surrogate army, Hezbollah, in Lebanon is equipped and itching to strike Israel just to their south. Hezbollah and allied parties have just increased their influence through elections in Lebanon.
At this point in history, we would have to consider Iran as the greatest threat to the state of Israel. Iran has announced repeatedly that it intends to “wipe Israel off the map”. This is its version of the “Final Solution”. Someone embraces this mantel in every generation. Israel has become increasingly alarmed with the build-up of Iranian military in Syria and Lebanon. Recently it is believed that the Israelis struck a military facility in Syria resulting in the death of numerous Iranian soldiers. We read that Israel has vowed not to allow Iran to establish a military foothold in Syria; but, it seems that it is a little too late for that now. Last week. Prime Minister Netanyahu revealed that the Mossad had managed to locate, take and transport huge quantity of Iranian secret documents concerning their nuclear program from Tehran to Jerusalem. This must be an unprecedented embarrassment for the religious leaders of Iran. I can just imagine the surging hatred felt by these leaders toward God’s people Israel. As we have seen since, we can expect more open, direct conflict between Iran and Israel.
The Conflict, The Temple Mount and the Role of Believers in Messiah Jesus
As this situation explodes into an increasingly open military conflict, real believers in Messiah Jesus should mount a powerful prayer offensive on behalf of Israel. I believe that the God who brought the Jewish people to the land of Israel will certainly intervene to preserve His people and cause them to prevail in battle. The Palestinian Authority and Hamas in Gaza will certainly align themselves with the enemies of Israel and mount opposition on the home front. Perhaps this situation will be the right time for Israel to sanctify God’s Name on the Holy Mountain. There has been an increasing awareness of Israel’s need to take control of the Temple Mount, to assemble there, to pray there. I would love to see something like the “tent of meeting” (tabernacle) placed there for the purpose of worshipping the God of Israel. This may be the time.
Again, real followers of Messiah Jesus should join in powerful fasting and praying for Israel in this conflict. We should become such a force that the military leaders of Israel would recognize the awesome strength given to them as a result. The prophet Zechariah prophesied that:
The leaders of Judah will say in their heart, the dwellers of Jerusalem are a great strength for us through the Lord of Hosts their God (Zechariah 12:5, my translation).
If today you confess that you are a serious follower of Jesus and don’t understand how this scripture applies to you, let me recommend a course of study at the Tzemach Institute and obtain and study my book, “Hebraic Roots”.
